Unemployed? Try volunteering!

Did you know that volunteering is a great way to gain work experience?  Volunteering also provides networking opportunities and potential job placement.  Volunteering can be a way to discover personal talents you were unaware of or just a chance to try something new.  These experiences could shape a new career path and land you the job you love!

Check out this article from The New York Times, January 2009.  Not only workers are affected by the downturn of the economy, but nonprofits are feeling the economic stress, too.  Click here for the story.

There are a number of local organizations you can volunteer with.  Spartanburg County Public Libraries has many ways you can volunteer.  From giving tours, working in the Library Store, keeping the shelves straightened, to assisting patrons at the information desk!  Call 596-3514 for information or checkout the volunteer page on Infodepot.org!

Check out SCIway.net for a list of local organizations that may need your help!

Volunteer Match provides information on Upstate organizations, too!
