Not only are basic computer skills a requirement for general employment, but more and more employers are asking for a resume. If you have never compiled a resume of your work history and personal skills, there are a variety of resources available to help you.
SCPL-Headquarters is offering a RESUME from SCRATCH class on Thursday, June 18. You can sign up for this class by calling 596-3505 or stop by the library downtown. This class is limited to 12 people and requires a completed worksheet to participate. Worksheets can be picked up at any branch! For more information, please call 596-3505.

If you are unable to schedule a workshop or just need a few pointers, the library offers a variety of Resume Handbooks. These are free resources and available for check out with a SCPL library card. There are also some really great resources online. Some Resume sites require a fee, but there are some great sites with free information to get you started. Check out The Owl at Purdue-Resume Workshop. Here you’ll find detailed explanations and step-by-step processes for building your resume. You’ll even find a PowerPoint slide presentation with resume writing tips and designs!
Resume-help.org offers a great list of FAQs! You’ll find tips on how long your resume should be, how to handle self-employment on a resume, and what to do when your work history includes multiple fields/positions. They also provide a list of keywords, or buzz words, to use when describing the work you did.
